default den haag
archive about newsletter
    • default den haag (short ‘default’) is a non-profit curatorial initiative focused on the presentation of creative contemporary sound and performance in The Hague, The Netherlands, curating and organizing their nomadic sound series with an international focus on experimental music and sound-based performances since 2022, next to occasionally hosting accompanying talks and conversations.

In this way, default aims to nurture significant contemporary practices which due to their experimental, emerging or persistent other-minded nature are located outside dominant and commercial music contexts.

Our programs hold a specific international focus on developments affiliated with electro-acoustic improvisation, experimental contemporary composition and performance, sound art performance, computer music, and all sorts of sound poetics. This includes creative work in relation to sound and listening by artists who work across disciplines.

default has curated and set up events in The Hague at and in collaboration with: The Grey Space in the Middle, Korzo, iii, 3345 The Hague, Central Library, and The Institute of Sonology.

default gratefully acknowledges the current financial support from the Municipality of The Hague, Cultuurfonds, Fonds Podiumkunsten, and the Konrad Boehmer Foundation.
