default den haag is a non-profit, artist-run, curatorial initiative that aims to present and nurture significant creative contemporary sound and performance in the Hague, the Netherlands, which due to their experimental, emerging or persistent other-minded nature are located outside the dominant and commercial music culture/industry. Since the end of 2022, default has been setting up their nomadic sound series in the Hague, with regular events combining a handful of experimental music and sound art performances each time, next to occasionally hosting accompanying talks and lectures.
Our programs hold a specific international focus on developments affiliated with electro-acoustic improvisation, experimental contemporary composition and performance, sound art performance, computer music, and all sorts of sound poetics. This includes creative work in relation to sound, by artists who work across disciplines.
default has curated and set up events at and in collaboration with: The Grey Space in the Middle, 3345 The Hague, Central Library, The Institute of Sonology, and iii.
Run & curated by Cis De Gendt
Poster & logo designs: Basia Strzeżek
Initial identity and the design of the first three posters:
Ran De Vos
Writing & communication assistance: Andrejs Poikāns
Production & technical assistance: Lawrence McGuire
Technicians we’ve collaborated closely with: Joel Thurman & Gaia Heichal
Photographers we’ve collaborated closely with: Helena Roig & Jente WaerzeggersOur sound series gratefully acknowledges the current financial support by the Municipality of the Hague and the Konrad Boehmer Foundation.
default couldn’t exist today without the help of all the above and with the great generosity of many friends, supporters and volunteers, who have been contributing by preparing catering, helping with promotion and selling tickets at the door, or by providing advice, support and tech. Neither would this be possible without the financial support of our current fund holders, nor without the returning showup of our attentive and curious audience. Thank You.

If you want to get involved as a volunteer at default, contact us at vol@defaultdenhaag.com — we are always in need of people to help with selling tickets or hanging posters.
If you are aware of our programming and think your proposal is suitable for our curation, feel free to send a short description with link to audio or video to: program@defaultdenhaag.com Please be aware that because of how our operation functions at the moment, it’s not always possible to get back to all programming enquiries in time - thank you for understanding. We are not a venue but a strongly curated series with a limited amount of events per year, relying still on a lot of voluntary work and with a limited amount of time and means.
